Early start today for
the Lake Argyle Cruises. Had a great night sleep in the
cabin and as aways a great breakfast and that first cup of coffee in the
morning, from Skinny! About a half hour drive from Kununurra to the lake, Macca, Scotty, Bruce, Jude and Jorden on the video camera on the cruise. The
rest of the crew went off to Wyndham for the day. Of course, another
glorious day in WA.
We met at the boat and were lucky enough to have the entire
boat to ourselves. Lake Argyle is magnificent! It's so grand you can't see it
in its entirety from the ground. It's actually 21 Sydney harbours combined, to
give you an idea how big it is. Even in the dry season it remains over 90% full. Nature
did a great job in designing the lake, as it only took 2 years to build as it
only required a relatively small dam wall in 1 section to fill the entire area.
Stretches over a 1,000 square km of water, which feeds the entire area in and
around Kununurra. Many industries in agriculture only survive because of the
lake and the constant supply of water.
You can swim in the lake and the have a BBQ on boats you can hire as well, and spend the day on the water with lunch, as we
saw many people doing. During the cruise we see a few freshwater crocs and then
we stop to see the Wild Archer fish. These guys are amazing. You hold some
bread over the edge of the boat, they pop their heads out of the water and spit
water to make you drop the bread! Never know fish could do that. They do this
to get insects sitting on branches at the water's edge and then knock them into
the water for a quick snack! We also enjoyed a coffee and biscuits for morning
tea on the boat. Overall, the cruise went for over 2 hours, and thoroughly
enjoyed it. I would highly recommend doing it when you’re in the area with
Lake Argyle Cruisers.
After the cruise I drove one of chevys back with Scotty,
Jude and Bruce as Macca and Jorden stay longer to do some more filming. Once
back at the park, the rest of the day is pretty chilled. I drive into town to
re stock some supplies and then relaxed for the rest of the day. It’s a lovely
caravan park on the lake, with great facilities and large open grassed areas.
They even had a musician playing in the afternoon! After dinner, we had Macca's regular meeting with the team, covering what tomorrow looks like. Then we pack-up, hit the bed and off we go on the road early tomorrow.

Day 15 Blog Location: Broome , WA Slept well in the cabin, and the air con is nice to have! After breakfast we head into town as we are having a tour with one of the locals, Bart, who is going to show us the different types of mangroves and some history about Broome. We trek through the mangroves. Bart told us about the first white people that arrived and how his people helped them and showed them where to find water. How the mangroves provide a variety of food, including sea snails which we collected a few to try on the fire. It was very hot, but we certainly enjoyed it. We headed out and Bart got a fire going and started cooking the sea snails. I didn’t try one, but those that did describe them as quite good to a little rubbery! Once finished we all thanked Bart for the tour which took about 2 hours and was certainly something worthwhile doing when you come to Broome. A few of us then went to Matsos which is a craft brewery and restaurant for a cool drink and some l...
Day 13 Blog Location: Tunnel Creek , WA Another beautiful day in WA and another great night in the swag. We were up early as we needed to hit the road again and see how close we can get to Broome. Once we all have breakfast and pack up the convoy it's off to Tunnel Creek. This is an amazing place with a long history as it was used as a hideout late last century by the Aboriginal leader Jandamarra, who was killed outside its entrance in 1897. It’s a cave with water which you can walk through, and in some sections, you have to swim as the water gets too deep. It's pitch-black inside, so you need to bring your torches. Most of the team go in, but I chickened out! The entrance of the cave requires a bit of rock climbing to get to, so good footwear is a must. I go in as far as the water starts and then head back out and wave goodbye to everyone. There are sand banks inside where you can see freshwater crocs, but the team didn’t see any today. I wai...
