What's Up Down Under Adventure: Day 16

Image
Day 16 Blog Location:  Broome , WA Up early to pack all my bags and have my last breakfast. The ladies are going into town to have a look around and do some shopping, and as the airport is in town, I go with them for a few hours before my flight. Before we leave, I of course say all my goodbyes to everyone and thank them for an amazing trip. Did my last video for the trip and then headed into town. We all went our separate ways to look at things we wanted to buy. There were some great shops and art galleries to look at before we all met up for lunch. It was then time for me to leave and say my final goodbyes before Courtney dropped me off at the airport. So sad to leave everyone.  16 days ago, I was a stranger, didn’t know anyone, had only meet Tom once previously and now I’m leaving a great bunch of friends who I thoroughly enjoyed sharing this trip with. They made me feel very welcome and comfortable! My trip home is a flight from Broome to Perth, then Perth to ...

What's Up Down Under Adventure: Day 15

Day 15 Blog Location:  Broome , WA Slept well in the cabin, and the air con is nice to have! After breakfast we head into town as we are having a tour with one of the locals, Bart, who is going to show us the different types of mangroves and some history about Broome. We trek through the mangroves. Bart told us about the first white people that arrived and how his people helped them and showed them where to find water. How the mangroves provide a variety of food, including sea snails which we collected a few to try on the fire. It was very hot, but we certainly enjoyed it.  We headed out and Bart got a fire going and started cooking the sea snails. I didn’t try one, but those that did describe them as quite good to a little rubbery! Once finished we all thanked Bart for the tour which took about 2 hours and was certainly something worthwhile doing when you come to Broome. A few of us then went to Matsos which is a craft brewery and restaurant for a cool drink and some l...

What's Up Down Under Adventure: Day 14

Day 14 Blog Location:  Broome , WA It's sad, as we are down to our last few days of the trip. We're up early, have breakfast and then pack up and hit the Victoria Hwy and head to Broome. The highway is fully sealed so it's an easy drive, and after about 3-4 hours we arrive at the Broome caravan park. The park is very busy, with a cue of RV’s and caravans waiting, so we have to wait about half an hour before we can check in. I have a cabin at the park for the last 2 nights, and once the vans are all set up, we head down to the famous Cable Beach to take some shots.  I have seen Cable Beach on the TV before, but I can say they don’t do it justice. It's amazing! If you have a 4WD, you can drive onto the beach at low tide. There are rocks to navigate over, which with a 4WD is easy. I can’t believe the number of cars on the beach. Everyone’s set with their eskies and enjoying the view, sun and water. We find a spot to park and then Macca and the crew do some filming be...

What's Up Down Under Adventure: Day 13

Day 13 Blog Location:  Tunnel Creek , WA Another beautiful day in WA and another great night in the swag. We were up early as we needed to hit the road again and see how close we can get to Broome. Once we all have breakfast and pack up the convoy it's off to Tunnel Creek. This is an amazing place with a long history as it was used as a hideout late last century by the Aboriginal leader Jandamarra, who was killed outside its entrance in 1897. It’s a cave with water which you can walk through, and in some sections, you have to swim as the water gets too deep. It's pitch-black inside, so you need to bring your torches. Most of the team go in, but I chickened out!  The entrance of the cave requires a bit of rock climbing to get to, so good footwear is a must. I go in as far as the water starts and then head back out and wave goodbye to everyone. There are sand banks inside where you can see freshwater crocs, but the team didn’t see any today. I wai...

What's Up Down Under Adventure: Day 12

Day 12 Blog Location:  Manning Gorge , WA Everyone is up early for a quick breakfast and then we start the swim and hike to the Manning Gorge. Macca is staying at camp to do some planning, so we will use our ZOLEO Global Satellite Communicators to keep in touch with each other. It’s about 6:30am and a little cool, so not really looking forward to the early morning swim. They provide a barrel to put your gear in to keep it dry while you swim across. As there are so many of us, we have an additional large waterproof case for all the camera gear. It does take a few trips to get us all over, and the boys do a great job swimming the cases back each time for the next lot to come over. The water wasn’t that cold which was great! Once on the other side, you dry off, put a top on and good walking shoes. These are essential for the hike.  The park rangers have signs for the public that say they expect everyone to be back from the Gorge no later than 2pm, as the hike gets t...
