What's Up Down Under Adventure: Day 15

Day 15 Blog

Location: Broome, WA

Slept well in the cabin, and the air con is nice to have! After breakfast we head into town as we are having a tour with one of the locals, Bart, who is going to show us the different types of mangroves and some history about Broome. We trek through the mangroves. Bart told us about the first white people that arrived and how his people helped them and showed them where to find water. How the mangroves provide a variety of food, including sea snails which we collected a few to try on the fire. It was very hot, but we certainly enjoyed it.

We headed out and Bart got a fire going and started cooking the sea snails. I didn’t try one, but those that did describe them as quite good to a little rubbery! Once finished we all thanked Bart for the tour which took about 2 hours and was certainly something worthwhile doing when you come to Broome. A few of us then went to Matsos which is a craft brewery and restaurant for a cool drink and some lunch. A very nice place with good food! Afterwards we headed back to the park for an hour or so, and then headed down to Cable Beach for the famous camel rides!

The ride was great, and it was much easier to get on the camels than I thought. We ride a little way down the beach and then back again, so about 20 minutes. The usual tour go’s much longer, but the shorter one was perfect for me! It's not that comfortable on the camel's back. After the ride, Macca and the crew had some more filming, so Scotty, Jude, Bruce and I walked back up the beach to a lovely restaurant overlooking the water and enjoyed a few drinks and snacks. When all the filming was finished, we went back down, took some more sunset pics and then headed back to the park. Another beautiful roast lamb for dinner, just amazing what the team can cook! Had a wonderful last evening and everyone shared their favourite places and stories. I headed off to my cabin for my last night’s sleep in WA, and tomorrow its fly back home to Melbourne and the cold! Rats!!
