Location: Tunnel Creek, WA



Another beautiful day in WA and another great night in the swag. We were up early as we needed to hit the road again and see how close we can get to Broome. Once we all have breakfast and pack up the convoy it's off to Tunnel Creek. This is an amazing place with a long history as it was used as a hideout late last century by the Aboriginal leader Jandamarra, who was killed outside its entrance in 1897. It’s a cave with water which you can walk through, and in some sections, you have to swim as the water gets too deep. It's pitch-black inside, so you need to bring your torches. Most of the team go in, but I chickened out! 


The entrance of the cave requires a bit of rock climbing to get to, so good footwear is a must. I go in as far as the water starts and then head back out and wave goodbye to everyone. There are sand banks inside where you can see freshwater crocs, but the team didn’t see any today. I wait outside in the shade as it's really hot. I spotted my first snake on the trip that was coming out to sunbake and I warn the others entering where it is. About half an hour later they all come out and say how much they enjoyed it, although they did say the water inside was very cold!! We all head back to the cars, and we are on the road again. 

We drive and come to the end of the Gibb River Road and onto the Victoria highway. Here we have to stop to put air in the tires for the bitumen. With 32 tires in total, this does take an hour or so to pump them all up again. I’m excited to hear we are only about 150km’s from the Wolf Creek Crater, where the John Jarratt’s movie “Wolf Creek” was based on, but Macca said we don’t have time to go there, and the road to the crater is apparently really bad! Which coming from Macca, it must be bad! Oh well, next trip then! We drive down the Victoria Highway for a few hours and pull into a free camp spot late afternoon. This one has a gate which is strange, but later makes sense when we have a visitor in our camp, who stays a while to say hi to everyone! This is our last free camp as tomorrow we will arrive at our destination in Broome!

What's Up Down Under Adventure: Day 9

   Day 9 Blog Location:  Ellenbrae Station , WA A nice hot shower first thing at the station facilities was great. Usual breakfast of some cereal and a coffee. After breakfast we walk up to the station house where they have very nice gardens and outdoor areas to relax, have a snack or a drink. Ellenbrae Station is a 980,000-acre property that runs about 2,000 cattle; however, their main source of income now is tourism over the dry season as they close over the wet season. It provides many camping sites and even has some cabins available if you book early. There is a great amenities block with clean toilets and nice showers. Ellenbrae Station is famous for their scones with jam and cream, so we have to try them. Still warm from the oven and fresh cream just amazingly good! Worth the trip out here just for the scones! Enjoyed them with a nice Ice Coffee Frappe! They do sell some drinks, and have a gift shop (bought myself a great shirt) but no shop for food and supplies, so make sure you

What's Up Down Under Adventure: Day 16

   Day 16 Blog Location:  Broome , WA Up early to pack all my bags and have my last breakfast. The ladies are going into town to have a look around and do some shopping, and as the airport is in town, I go with them for a few hours before my flight. Before we leave, I of course say all my goodbyes to everyone and thank them for an amazing trip. Did my last video for the trip and then headed into town. We all went our separate ways to look at things we wanted to buy. There were some great shops and art galleries to look at before we all met up for lunch. It was then time for me to leave and say my final goodbyes before Courtney dropped me off at the airport. So sad to leave everyone.  16 days ago, I was a stranger, didn’t know anyone, had only meet Tom once previously and now I’m leaving a great bunch of friends who I thoroughly enjoyed sharing this trip with.
