What's Up Down Under Adventure: Day 9
Day 9 Blog
Location: Ellenbrae Station, WA
A nice hot shower first thing at the station facilities was great. Usual breakfast of some cereal and a coffee. After breakfast we walk up to the station house where they have very nice gardens and outdoor areas to relax, have a snack or a drink. Ellenbrae Station is a 980,000-acre property that runs about 2,000 cattle; however, their main source of income now is tourism over the dry season as they close over the wet season. It provides many camping sites and even has some cabins available if you book early. There is a great amenities block with clean toilets and nice showers. Ellenbrae Station is famous for their scones with jam and cream, so we have to try them. Still warm from the oven and fresh cream just amazingly good! Worth the trip out here just for the scones! Enjoyed them with a nice Ice Coffee Frappe! They do sell some drinks, and have a gift shop (bought myself a great shirt) but no shop for food and supplies, so make sure your stocked before arriving.
Of course, it’s another beautiful day and the ladies are booked in for an outback soak. Ellenbrae has secluded bathtubs where you can book and have a relaxing soak, either hot or cold and even have some bubbly and food while you soak and relax! The Ladies loved it! 😊 The station also has a few waterholes, and I swam in 2 of them, and both were great. Obviously no salties, and any freshies will leave you alone. The perfect thing you need is a noodle! Jude and Scotty had one and they are perfect to just hold onto and float as the swimming holes are deep. The swim was very refreshing then back to camp for a light lunch, another swim in the afternoon at another hole, which was also great.
For dinner we start a fire, and we are
cooking in the camp ovens tonight! Roast beef, in 2 large camp ovens. Annie
also volunteered to make a damper on the fire! Everything was great and had a very tasty dinner, the damper was perfect and the beef was perfectly
cooked in the camp ovens! Quick meeting from Macca on tomorrows plans which is
leaving Ellenbrae and head to the Gibb River. We learned today from the
station managers, that if you break down out here it can cost up to $10k to get
a tow truck, and a story of a guy who broke down, rung his insurance
company from the station and they said just leave it, so gave the keys to the station
who were able to retrieve it, fix it and now it’s a station hack car! So important to be prepared and make sure your
car, van, everything is up the trip, as $10k is a very heavy cost to wear! Very
relaxing night under the stars, by the fire, just doesn’t get any better!! 😊
