What's Up Down Under Adventure - Day 5

Day 5 Blog

Location: Kununurra, WA

Early start and some great bacon and eggs for all for breakfast! Great way to start the day. Had a great night’s sleep in the swag, I’m surprised how comfortable they are. Last night was a bit chilly, but all good with my sleeping bag. We get moving early and head off for Kununurra. Lots of stops again for filming.

Late morning we cross the border from the NT into WA. There is a major stop where vehicles and vans are checked to ensure you are not bringing any fruit, nuts and vegetables into WA. We have done well and ate most of ours along the way, and we stopped before the border at one of the roadside disposal spots and made sure we didn’t have anything we shouldn’t. I’m surprised by the scenery as I expected it to be more desert, but there is always bush and trees, so always something to look at. All the cars have UHF radios fitted, so we keep in touch with everyone and also Dean who leads the convoy, is always giving everyone a heads up for anything, like cattle on the road or bad pot holes which is great.

Going through the quarantine section takes around an hour to have all the vans checked and once complete we hit the road again and drive through to Kununurra. We arrive at the Kimberlyland Caravan park which looks beautiful! After a quick set of the vans, we head off to visit the Hoochery Distillery for lunch and some tastings. The lunch was great and we enjoyed a tour of the distillery where they are famous for their award-winning rums, they do gins and whisky too. Lots of tastings by many in the group and as a non-drinker, I get to drive one of the Chevys back to the caravan park, they are just great to drive.

Once back at the park, I get to share a great cabin with Adrian and David, so no swag for a couple of nights. I scored the queen bed and Adrian and David got the bunks. After a light dinner we relax, and I get to watch Collingwood beat Geelong on TV! Yay….sorry Jude.
