What's Up Down Under Adventure - Day 3

Day 3 Blog

Location: Katherine, NT

Today we off into town to visit a few great places. We start at the Top Diji Cultural experience, where you can view and buy some great aboriginl rt works, and we have a great session with Manual one of the locals who gave us history on his family and how they moved from Darwin to Katherine many years ago.

We then got to learn some traditional hunting skills with a spear, hunting kangaroo. No animals were hurt as we were just throwing at cardboard cut outs, and I manager to hit the target!

Then off to the Katherine Museum, which was really informative about the history of Katherine and its people. I never knew Katherine was heavily bombed by the Japanese during WW2, with 1 raid dropping over 90 bombs on Katherine. As defence, the locals just had trenches dug in their back yards, which they would go in during the raids. On 1 occasion the local post office staff around 12 went in their trench and unfortunately all were killed by a direct hit.

We stopped off at the Katherine Club for some nice lunch and then we then head off to the “Outback experience” show. Show was awesome and a great one for families and kids! You get some country music, horse breaking demonstration and then a spectacular dog show. The kids then got to hold some puppies and they also had goats, Bulls, and donkeys. I never seen a goat or dog ride a horse before! Fantastic day and well worth seeing all 3 places! Then back to camp for another great night.
